If you are a member of the LGBT community, you may be eligible for Live Out Loud Scholarships. These LGBT scholarships can be very lucrative in helping to pay for your college education, and they should not be overlooked when you are looking for financial aid for your education.
Live Out Loud is an organization that was created by Leo Preziosi, Jr. The organization is relatively new, but is already making progress in helping to further the educations of those within the LGBT community, as well as educating those who are not concerning the issues that community members face. This organization works to educate the members of the community, as well as those outside of the community, through a series of seminars that show how these individuals are making a positive difference within their community and their world in general.
While the number of awards and the amount of the awards vary from year to year, on average, four awards are made each year, with each award being worth about $2500. These scholarships for LGBT are non-renewable. The awards can be used at community colleges, universities, and technical or vocational schools, as long as they are accredited and located in the United States. Additionally, you must be a citizen of the United States to apply for this scholarship program.
Live Out Loud Scholarships are available to high school seniors, as well as those who have put off furthering their education past high school for a year, but no more. Additionally, the applicant must identify as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, or transgender in order to be eligible. Applicants must live in the New York Tri-State Area. If it has been more than a year since you’ve graduated high school, you are not eligible for this scholarship program, whether you are already enrolled in college or not.
The selection process weighs heavily on the application and required materials. To apply you must submit the application, two letters of recommendation, your transcript, a personal essay, and a background of your community service involvement. After these items are submitted, if you are in the running for one of these awards, there will be an individual interview, and your financial need also plays a role, as well as your goals for the future. Additionally, you must submit a copy of your acceptance letter for the school that you will be attending.
All application materials for the Live Out Loud Scholarships for LGBT must be received at the end of March of each year. The selections are made quickly, and the awards are given at the scholarship ceremony at the end of April each year. The Live Out Loud Scholarships are paid directly to the school that you will attend, and not to the student, but only after it has been verified that you are actually attending.
